Do you think the De La Hoya vs. Mayweather fight was enough to give boxing a boost over Mixed Martial Arts?
Considering the star power behind the event, not only with its fighters, but with the celebrities, et cetera in attendance, I personally thought it turned out to be a “dud”. Its one thing to have two highly respected fighters compete, but it’s another to see one carry the action while the other “plays it safe” only to win off points.
Although I’m a fan of both boxing and Mixed Martial Arts, I don’t see boxing staging a major comeback anytime soon. Too many boxing fans (hardcore and casual) are disgruntled with the corruption and the overabundance of organizations. So bearing this in mind, do you (as martial artists) think that boxing will get swallowed up by the MMA scene?
I believe it’s only a matter of time, but I’d like to hear what other martial artists think considering how MMA has already changed the martial arts landscape…
