Because he is smart and realizes UFC is a joke. UFC could NEVER draw the numbers boxing PPVs do. UFC is a fad and one that will fade away because people will grow old of the novelty act. Ask any casual sports fan if they can name more great boxers or MMA fighters. I bet 9 of 10 will say boxers. And thats because boxing is, and always will be, the best. UFC fans always make claims that they can’t back up with real statistics. Everytime they have a PPV they claim its the best ever. What a joke. They sound like WWE and we all know that although Vince McMahon is a joke, he is a rich one. So maybe they will make some money for awhile, but they dont even have the staying power of pro wrestling.

mixed martial arts is more entertaining. i think the boxing fans dont like mma because boxing is in direct competition with it and mma is putting boxing on the ropes

He hates it because its taking away viewers of his beloved sport boxing! pedritorodd is dead wrong about the UFC not drawing enough PPVS!!! it actually draws in more! The FAct that Oscar vs maywither drew such a huge number is a credit to OSCAR not boxing, and definetely not mayweather!!
MMA is more competitive because if a guy trys to run away from you all night like a spinks… You simply grab him and take him out via ground and pound! MMA is far more entertaining, more complex, and more competitive.
I am still a hard core boxing fan! I actually like both sports. I just hate it when people who do not know anything say that MMA is a fad! It keeps growing and growing! not only that I think it will actually help boxing get its act together!! There are too many problems for me to name here!!

diffrent strokes, for diffrent folks, however to say that mixed martial arts doesn’t require the same skill, or physical attributes as a boxer is just plain silly (mayweather & hopkins), and that comes from someone who watches boxing on a 10-1 ratio. people just need to have respect for each other’s interest, and support what you love

This may not be a popular answer with a lot of people, but here goes. These days boxing has become so full of “home-cooked decisions”, prospects being served up “tomato can” opponents to pad their records, fighters being allowed to duck good opponents (Stay at Home Joe Calzaghe, for one) and promoters setting fights up that are intended to make their fighters look good (do I even have to mention Don King??) that people are just getting tired of it.
Boxing announcers like Lampley realize that the ever-growing popularity of MMA is a real threat to boxing, and of course they hate it.
Hell… I’m getting fed up with boxing myself, and I’ve been a fight fan since the early 1950’s.
If the Mayweather/DeLaHoya fiasco is any indication of an entertaining fight… I’d have to say MMA is the more entertaining.

Can’t speak for Lampley but I can tell you why I don’t like it as much as boxing. There is no science to it, in a boxing match it is as much about out smarting the other guy as it is beating the other guy. In UFC one tackles the other and pounds on him. I enjoy watching it once and a while but I would prefer the strategy of boxing any day of the week.

Well, for one thing, Lampley works for HBO, a big boxing network, so he’s not going to go around giving credit to what is now percieved as boxing’s biggest threat, MMA. I personally am a fan of both sports, but my heart and loyalty lies with boxing. I respect MMA fighters because i’ve seen them up close, and they do have skill and heart, but people have been driving the stake through boxing’s heart for decades now, and it’s still here. Boxing has a long, long history and it’s not just going to go away because of MMA. Boxing has legendary champions from all races and nationalities. Think of all the proud fighters from Mexico like Julio Cesar Chavez, Salvador Sanchez, Barrera, and the great fighters of Puerto Rico like Wifredo Gomez, Tito Trinidad, Carlos Ortiz.. Boxing has a rich history and tradition with great fighters from other countries as well as great fighters from the U.S. MMA is up and coming, but i don’t think it will ever overtake boxing. Though i will admit, boxing needs to get it’s act together if it wants to bring in a larger fan base. Free fights on network TV would be a good start, as well as getting the best fighters in the ring against each other. The De La Hoya-Mayweather fight had a chance to bring boxing back to the glory days of Hagler, Leonard, Hearns, and Duran, but while the event was huge, the fight was a disappointment. And i agree with David B., Calzaghe should fight Kessler now because it’s one of the biggest fights in the sport right now, and that’s what boxing needs. As long as the best fighters continue to avoid each other, boxing will continue to suffer because of it.

Simply speaking…..marketing. He is a paid announcer. As such, he has to put in the good word for his employer and not the competition.
He has been a boxing announcer for quite some time. He is probably like a lot of us boxing fans….we like boxing and nothing else.
Heck he has a front seat to great fights and probably has lot’s of access to the fighters. A lot of us would give an arm & leg for that!
That’s easily enough to make anyone a loyal fan.
