In the old days, they used to have tournaments with all the fights in the bracket done in one night. One could end up fighting 5 times that night. But then people started realizing that fighters were getting really messed up.

I think largely, it is about money. But I like to kid myself and suggest that the big-wigs probably want the fighters to heal. This (also money-related) is so the fighters can put on the best fight/show possible. We all know UFC is a giant spectical, and thanks to TV, more people are seeing the top fighters than ever before. Therefore, a) they don't need to work as much to make a lot of money and b) we always want to see them fight.

I would like to see them fight more too, but a lot of logistics stand in the way. Part of the problem is that there are fighters who will fight 7 days a week if you let them, which is not good health-wise. Then, there are those you couldn't afford to fight more than twice a year (this means you, Tito). I would like to see some kind of cycle go where every four months or so you'd have a fight (even just a non-title). But again, it's up to the big-wigs and how they wanna run things.

You know that many times fighters aren't allowed to fight every other month? Either way I don't see what the problem is. Give some examples of some superstar talent not fighting enough.

And what's a top 10 fighter? Top Ten Rankings mean nothing. Matt Serra is ranked as the number one welterweight. You really think he's gonna tear through Hughes and GSP on the rematch?

Mr Bo Jangles please stop saying you write for the UFC. That's not going to help "your company" get any more mainstream.

i love the fight cards just the way they are. i like the main event but i really enjoy the under cards, that usually consist of 2 lesser known fighters trying to make a name for themselves. those are always the best fights.

As soon as Bo Jangles said Zuffa is not about the almighty dollar I laughed. Ofcourse they are, they are a business. Obviously writing for Yahoo does not make one smart, you probably just went to journalism school. There are many advantages for giving a free card once in a while. Mainly the general public have access to your product for free and if they end up liking your product that is potentially beneficial for you in the long run. Obviously he is not schooled in basic economics.Top levels fighters have trained a good portion of their lives to get there and usually you would need 15 to 20 fights just to get a shot at the title. By the time you get to that many fights it is not as important to be fighting all the time because you are now trying to get paid and build up your prestige. It's all about prestige and reputation. That is what gets people paid. Take a loss and you get knocked back down the totem pole again. Top levels fighters should not be fighting more then 2 or 3 times a year and the up and comers need to be fighting a little more, but they need to keep those salaries down so they stay hungry. What really needs to happen is that Zuffa needs to bring back Pride FC, that way there is like a American and National league of MMA like in baseball and then once a year maybe pit the two Org's together in a Super Bowl event. That wopuld be sweet.

Zuffa is NOT about the almighty dollar, that's boxing. If they were we would have to pay for UFC 75, so get that crap out of your head.

Fighters fight about once every three months. Before they come to the UFC, some fighters fight every weekend...AND HOW GOOD ARE THOSE SHOWS...crap.The reason why the UFC has the best shows is BECAUSE the fighters have time to train.
The reason the Champions only fight twice a year on average(for the UFC anyway) is that they have to let guys fight for the right to fight them.
I thought all of this was common sense guys. Any fighter in the top ten that asks for a title shot, will probably get it. If the UFC see's an up and comer that they think will make a good fight, they get it too.
It was NEVER and will NEVER be about "How much money can we make?"
It's all about what will make good TV.

Should they? Yes. Will they? Probably not. Zuffa is all about the mighty dollar. As long as their buy rates remain the same, so will their shows.
