Most MMA artists dont have a background in Karate, because krte doesnt involve actual contact with the intent to hurt or submit.UFC fighters actually find Karate pathetic….one gym in Nashville TN’s motto is dont do Karate it will get you killed all fighters have backgrounds in Brazilian Jujitsu and Boxing and others. Ju Jitsu is a really great starting point and wrestling is also a good starting point. i know alot about this stuff and the fighters involved i used to date one and he knows all of the guys on TV they are great guys….u can ask me anything ill pretty much be able to answer it

There are only a few that I know have had Karate training, but I’m sure there are others.
Georges “Rush” St.-Pierre, the #1 ranked Welterweight in the world and current UFC welterweight champion, began his martial arts training in Kyokushin karate. He only moved on to wrestling, boxing and brazilian jujitsu after his sensei died. He doesn’t compete in karate tournaments anymore because of his contract with the UFC.
Chuck “The Iceman” Liddell, former UFC light heavyweight champion and still widely considered to be one of the best lhw in the world, also started training in kenpo and koei-kan karate as one of his first martial arts. The tattoo on the back of his head translates to “koei-kan”.
