How is Mixed-Martial Arts (MMA) school like?

Mixed Martial Arts
Our Savior asked:

Are the people there kind and supportive to shy students? Or are the people there total douchebags to whoever they don’t like or can relate to?

I’m thinking about enrolling into a MMA school, but I don’t know how I’ll fit in.

well it all depends what school you go to. at my school everyones nice, except for this one ass who thinks hes the shit lol. the trainers there are patient with you the first couple of weeks, and try to talk to you to get to know you.

It depends really. In my gym they welcomed me very kindly. They shook my hands, asked name, the usual for meeting someone new.

Don’t! MMA isn’t what all it’s made out to be. Take a real martial art.

Depends, if you’re going to a legitimate gym or a weak school. Depending on how serious you take it will factor into how much respect you get. If you just start fighting, and you start decking yourself out in TapouT gear, and claiming yourself a Cage Fighter, you’re probably going to get your ass beat.

I’ve trained at probably 5 different schools in Nebraska, one in Iowa, and have had additional other trainers over the years. I’ve never found a trainer or a school that, for example, welcomed someone new by having a good fighter kick the crap out of them. All have been respectful and have tailored training and partners so that the training was sufficient to the need. Yes, it’s true that individuals might have attitudes, but it’s like if you ever worked at McDonalds and someone there was, for lack of a better term, an “ass”. You will get that everywhere.

Most all trainers are very good people who got there with years of experience not only in fighting/training, but also in dealing with people from all walks of life. Generally, all are pretty good with dealing with everyone.

It doesn’t matter if you don’t know anything, you still will be treated with respect, at least that’s been my experience over the past 20 years.
