Okay, first you can start by going to some shady bars in your area and making loud racist comments and then say “If anyone has a problem with that, we can take it outside”. Then after you win a couple of those fights you can take your act on the road to some big cities and try the same thing… Then when you finally get it on with Filo Betto or Tank Johnson you’ll be ready for the UFC……

Mr Chris

I live in TX so my geography of NY is not so good. I know Matt Serra currently has an MMA school in New York as does Renzo Gracie. Both of these guys specialize in jiu jitsu, but I can assure you that they train in everything.

Matt Serra’s schools are located at:

East Meadow Academy
2554 Hempstead Turnpike
East Meadow, NY 11554
Phone: (516) 520-2052

Huntington Academy
601 West Jericho Turnpike
Huntington, NY 11743
Phone: (631) 385-2312

Renzo Gracie’s school is located at:

224 West 30th street (btween 7th and 8th avenue)
New York, NY

Obviously if you are in high school join the wrestling team.

As the name states (mixed martial arts), it’s a mixture of various martial arts, basically what’s effective. A good start would be to learn stand-up and grappling.

Stand-up recommendations:
muay thai
boxing
kickboxing
san-shou
kyokushen karate

grappling recommendations:
jiu-jitsu
judo
sambo
wrestling (greco-roman, not the wwe crap)

Learn at least one of each, and you should be ok, learn 2 of each, and you will have enough knowledge, the training part is up to you. Try to find a gym where they have MMA fighters, usually jiu-jitsu gyms will know.

dont waist your time … if you like mma take CSW.. it incorporates wrestling catchascatchcan and sumbissions and reversals…. bjj is the gentle art-thats its transaltion and its too slow… csw IS the mma of the mat.
go to erik paulsons web page and ask who he has trained in NY. you might find someone through him.
try it youll be thanking me later.

Bradley,

Find out where some MMA schools are and ask them if they hold any smokers. “Smokers” are unsanctioned, unofficial fighting events where aspiring fighters like yourself get their start. Pretty much any one over 18 can sign up and fight. You do not even have to be associated with a trainer or school. In smokers, you can just be someone who wants to give it a try.

When you find a school that holds smokers, sign up for the next event and give it a go.

Keep em up and have fun!
