Idea for a strong mixed martial art?

Mixed Martial Arts
Scott L asked:

I think a good mixture would be Taekwondo,Boxing and Jiu-jitsu because each style would train the fighter to have a good grip over every part of his body.
Taekwondo=powerful kicks
Boxing=Powerful punchs
Jiu-Jitsu=Strong take downs.
That is just what I think depending on the information I know but what do you think would be the best mixed martial art or do you agree with mine.
The limit is 3 martial arts.

I have always felt that wresting was the best background for martial arts. You throw in ju jitsu and some good striking and you get an above average fighter.

I would substitute TKD with Muay Thai

Yeah those are good, but jiu-jitsu is not so much about take downs as it is ground fighting and submissions. Wrestling has the best take downs and take down defense but no submissions (unless its submission wrestling). Any striking art and a grappling art make you pretty well rounded. my choice would be Muay Thai, Tai chi Chuan, and BJJ. Muay Thai for the strikes and the clinch, Tai Chi Chuan for the clinch, sensitivity training, takedown defense, and bjj for the ground and submissins. Right now i cross train in Tai Chi Chuan and Submission grappling and my Tai Chi Chuan has helped my grappling tons. I train with a lot of guys that use Choy Li Fut, Tai Chi Chuan, and submission grappling and compete in mma and do quite well. This is a good combination but any well rounded combination will do.

Tae Kwon Do is a great martial art, but it doesn’t work in Mixed Martial Arts.

Muay Thai is the best for striking. Hopefully you can go to a school with boxing too. Theres nothing better than throwing boxing combos, then punishing with Muay Thai kicks.

I really recommend Judo to people too. I started intergrating it with my style, and it really did change the way I do takedowns.

Wrestling is hands down the best thing to start out with. If anyone is in high school and is interested in MMA, join your wrestling team.
