Mixed Martial Arts Gym?

Mixed Martial Arts
jsosk88 asked:

Anyone go to a mixed martial arts gym? I’m thinking about joining but have some reservations like the price and starting out and getting acclimated with everything. What was it like starting out? Any info about mma gyms will be appreciated.
I took taek kwon do but that was years ago. I was thinking about starting with either jujitsu or muay thai first then adding the other into my training later. I’ve been looking for a gym in the Philadelphia area.

Mike is me

My question to you is what kind of training have you had up to this point. Do you feel that it will give you a good background in jumping into a mixed style of fighting. If you are worried about one sapect over another make sure you train that aspect before going in if price is an issue. Say your cardio is weak work on getting it to a level that you feel comfortable practiing the otehr aspects of fighting. It works for any part of MMA, grappling, striking or a foriegn form of martial arts. I suggest joining once you are truly comfortable with your preformance in the areas of practice you wish to specialize in.

Where do you live? When I first started I was humbled, got my arse whooped for a while. You usually take kickboxing, bjj, etc classes separately then have a MMA class. Go slow, don’t blow your wad, don’t forget to breathe.

I think that you should definately go to a MMA gym and start training. MMA is in my opinion the greatest sport out there. My advice to you is don’t think that your Tai Kwan Do experience is going to make you good cause it really doesn’t help in MMA. Go into the gym with an open mind and don’t think that your going to be doing flying arm bars and wild Judo throws the first days. Learn the basics first and the rest will fall into place.

Beware though of the people with karate dojo’s that want to make money so they slap a MMA sticker on the window and teach you a choke and then charge you 100 bucks more. Make sure that they have some MMA experience. Good Luck and Hit Em Hard
