These days, you can find mixed martial arts gyms whereby they teach alot of different arts for a single fee.

The arts which usually make up the standard curricullum include kickboxing for kicking and punching, jiujitsu for ground fighting and grappling.

Most gyms will usually have more than just 2 and may teach kali (stick fighting), judo (grabs and throws), wing chun (close combat trapping and attacking), etc.

Anyway, just go out and see if you can find a gym that teaches multiple martial arts and you can start there. If you can’t, well, then try and find a kick boxing or jiu jitsu gym.

Other names you can look out for would be Muay Thai (Thai Kick boxing), Vale Tudo and Sambo which are both grappling arts.

There are camps (Gracie, MIletich, Lion’s den, and many more) , but they can be expensive.

UFC is currently the biggest promoter of MMA (mixed martial arts) events, and to get there is no easy task.

First you need to do well at lother MMA shows (have a good professional record), for the UFC to consider signing a contract for you to fight for them (yes, a contract, it’s like a job).

In order to do well at MMA events you must be properly trained, both stand-up and grappling, here are some suggestions:

stand up: muay thai, boxing, san shou, kickboxing.

grappling: brazilian jiu-jitsu (bjj), wrestling, judo, sambo (sambo also has stand-up).

You must learn at least one of each (stand up and grappling), the most common ones are muay thai, bjj , and wrestling.

One you learn those I recommend you participate at local shows, once you turn pro you’ll face tougher competition. If you have a good record then you could negotiate a good contract with the UFC (a good manager helps).

I hope this information helps

There a few thing you can do.
Find an MMA school(yahoo your city and MMA)…. practice, then sign up for a fight.

You can try kickboxing and JuiJitsu for a while, since your already a wreslter you should have a good head start on MMA.

Yahoo search MMA tournements.

I look under the ISCFMMA.com……but that just depends on where you live.

It’s best to start out at the bottom and work your way up by competing in “Smokers”. Smokers are un-sanctioned, unofficial fighting events where beginners get their start.

Check with MMA schools in your area to find out when and where these events are held.

If you do not yet have a trainer, get one.

I am a Ring Announcer for these types of events in Southern California. The next event is this coming Saturday night in Monrovia. There are usually scouts in attendance who are looking to recruit talent for the higher levels.
