UFC Fighters?

UFC Fighters
Peter123 asked:

Many UFC fighters seem to have swollen ears, im guessing this is just due to taking hard hits to the sides of the heads. I was just wondering if this eventually happens to all mma fighters with time? and if its reversible or preventable?

Thanks.

its called cauliflower ear and its from constantly having your ears rubbed against the ground, people and different things in general its not reversable and they try to prevent it in wrestling by wearing the head gear but in mma your not allowed to so thats why alot of them have it plus alot of mma guys have wrestling backgrounds.

It’s called cauliflower ear. You get it by taking big shots on the side of your head on your ears. It’s just fluid buildup. Usually a doctor will stick a needle in it after the fight and drain it.

cauliflower ear happens from getting hit on the ear alot and wrestling and pulling your head out of neck holds and such. (your ears have to be pulled through to, get what I’m saying) So if you learn to wrestle right and you have the luck of not getting hit in the ears to much then you could avoid it but with all the fights a good mma fighter should get into it is hard to avoid.

It can be pevented if headgear is worn. The problem with headgear is no one has invented any that stays on and doesn’t slip and interfere with breathing or vision.

it’s called ‘cauliflower ear’ , from constant friction to the cartilage of the ear. It builds up with fluid, and as soon as you notice the onset of cauliflower ear you can get it syringed out medically. As you can see, many people just kinda leave it :P Alot of people see them as ‘battle scars’ and are proud of them. Hell i even know some guys who reckon it attracts ladies haha. But once the fluid has set, it’s permanent. You gotta get it syringed out early.
It’s preventable by wearing headgear.

It’s more prevalent in grapplers of MMA, because you get more friction during grappling training.

You can also see it in alot of rugby union players, just not as noticable.

Again like people have mentioned it comes from wrestling.. so if you put something to guard your ears you should be fine. Some idiots do it on purpose!! I wrestled and knew some kids saw it as a badge of honor or something.. personally I always liked the way my ears looked!!

Good answers throughout..

I rock fluffy pink earmuffs when I train. Not only does it protect my ears, it also deters my opponents from takedown attempts and grappling.

LOL!!

Just kidding by the way.. my earmuffs are actually blue.. HAHAHA!! =D
