Leather comes from moo cows. Synthetic leather comes from synthetic moo cows. As for which one’s better, it depends on the cow. lol. Just do some knuckle conditioning. After lots of training you’d be able to hit concrete walls with all of your strength and not feel any pain. You gotta rough it our a bit and be a man.

ha good answer, you wanna be able to feel a bit of pain otherwise your body won’t adapt, by working on your hands the skin gets thicker and the bones become dense, this means they start to weight more and this means they will do more damage to your apponent even if your wearing gloves, so just get a good pair of gloves and stop stressing the little things

The answers above are nonsense. You don’t want to beat your hands up to make them “tougher”. What you’ll do in the long run is give yourself arthritis and bone pain from the abnormal stress and repeated injuries. There’s a link below that shows you a little bit about what happens when you don’t protect your hands when hitting the heavy bag…Imagine doing it over a long time…So protect your hands.

I personally use leather bag gloves because they last longer and I like the way they feel once they get worn a little. Synthetic gloves are usually cheaper and don’t last as long, but some are well made – Ringside, Revgear, Title, and Combat Sports International are all good brands that make leather and synth leather.

The important part as far as protecting your hands is the padding inside the gloves – thicker padding means more protection. I like medium gloves (12 oz) for hitting the bag. They add some weight to the punches but have enough padding that I can hit the bag full strength without getting injured.

Make sure to wrap your hands with hand wraps (about $3) to add some extra protection and absorb the sweat. If you let your gloves get sweaty inside and don’t dry them they will start to get pretty smelly and gross FAST.

And use good technique – don’t hit he bag as hard when it’s moving into your punch – you want to catch it at the end, just as it stops swinging or just as it starts moving back toward the center.

Synthetic leather is just like any other syntheteic, just means it isn’t the real deal. Nothing really wrong with them and I have known a few people who preferred them. Me personally I prefer real leather, they tend to last longer and once they get broken in they get really comfortable.

Synthetic are cheaper.

You’ll feel the same amount of pain with either one, they are not designed for bag work, for bag work use at least 8oz gloves.

Synthetic Leather is vinyl. They are made to be lower cost, so quality is sacrificed. Go with the real leather ones. What is more important than protecting your knuckles, however, is protecting your WRISTS. You can easily sprain or break your wrist if you hit the bag incorrectly or do not use wrist wraps. Even good leather gloves do not do enough to protect this fragile joint.
