Where can I find Mixed Martial Arts training in Michigan?

Mixed Martial Arts
AmandaMarie47 asked:

I want to start MMA training. I live in Michigan. I have never fought at all in my life, so I will deffinitely need a place with a beginners class. I saw the movie Never Back Down and I want to start trying to train. More for the strength than the actual fighting. So, if you know of any MMA trainers in Michigan, please please let me know. Thanks.

Michigan is a big state. It would help to know what part you’re in.

It would also help if you opened the yellow pages under “martial Arts”, and started calling dojos.

Michigan is a big place. Kalamazoo, Grand Rapids, Lansing, Saginaw, Flint, Detroit?

In the Detroit area, for MMA, you can try Gladiator Martial Arts at.

For GR, you can try Jorge Gurgel’s Gracie Jiu Jitsu.

Other than that, I’m not sure.

Email me if you want more specific info.

You should check out Big House Boxing and MMA Studio. Its just 10 Min. from lansing, Michigan
Here is some stuff from the website.

How are we a unique gym?
I think the biggest difference is, we are a group of people who share a common interest, in this case recreational boxing and mma. We’re not selling you heavy bags or a ring or treadmills – we’re selling you an environment – one that will not only get you into the best physical shape of your life, but will have a dramatic effect on all areas of your life. Being motivated by the trainers and inspired by the members is something you can’t get when you’re walking on a treadmill watching CNN. There is no hierarchy, everyone comes to train.

I’m not very athletic. Will I be too intimidated to workout?
No, it’s quite the opposite. Most our members have never boxed before, and whether or not you’re athletic remains to be seen. Don’t consider yourself unathletic because you were the last one chosen in gym class. Remember you came in here to learn how to box, not show us what an accomplished fighter you are. We are able to take anybody and teach them to box like a professional boxer.

Can I bring my own trainer?
Big House Boxing is not your typical gym. Unlike most boxing/mma gyms, we do not allow outside trainers to bring in their own clients. Part of the lure of the gym is the atmosphere we create and the quality of the training. I think this is made possible by hand picking our trainers and developing our own method of training and conditioning.
