You will learn basic LINES (linear infighting neutralization engagement system) training, that’s the basic Army system. The above poster is correct, it is heavy on the Juijitsu, ground fighting, and MMA type holds. The theory is that most fights end up on the ground anyway, so it is pretty useful. You can become certified to different levels of proficiency. It’s a good system, but it wasn’t my favorite since it always felt kind of awkward to me – I was always partial to JKD and Wing Chun.

What official training you will recieve will depend on your MOS, too. SF, Rangers and other SpecOps obviously do a lot more of this. I was PSYOP, and even in AIT, we beat the piss out each other every Saturday morning (as rough as the Army will let you get, that is.) It was a lot of fun.

You can basically take whatever classes you want, off base and during your spare time. On base, you’ll meet people who know many different styles of martial arts. We used to practice a lot of things, simply for fun.
