80 percent of what you use in boxing can transfer into MMA, it's just that MMA has other tools available that actually make it WAY more technical than boxing.

As an example, if anyone has ever boxed, there is an excercise where you "U" under a rope to help with slipping punches while setting up your own. While it can be useful certainly in boxing, in MMA, you have to find another way as many times, you will get the knee or kick to the head as they feint the punch and come with the kick.

Just an example. And barbaric? Maybe back in the late 80's and early 90's I had my questions when we could head butt and elbow to the back of the head, neck and spine. Still may have not gone to barbaric, though.

I will agree with brutal as an alternative word. It is not a sport that "berserkers" do well at, at all. It's a technical chess match to feel out your opponent, find his weakness, and hopefully your strength is in that area so that you can finish the fight.

I'd rather call it Pugilism vs. Street Fighting, because that's what it is imo. Boxing is more tactical I think, it's ordered, structured, even civilized. MMA, absolute chaos. Whoever can go into Berserker mode faster is going to win. I'm not a fan, it's barbaric.

Boxers have shorter careers and post brain damage because they get hit more in the head.
